jeanette winterson's
written on the body is extremely interesting, albeit the fact that it borders somewhat on the weird. but nevertheless, it is still a fascinating read and i love the language used, the play on words. its beautiful. her criticism and insight into our world of cliches is refreshing, and i dont tire of reading, and re-reading, what she has to say.
'You'll get over it...' Its the cliches that cause the trouble. To lose someone you love is to alter your life for ever. You dont get over it because 'it' is the person you loved. The pain stops, there are new people, but the gap never closes. How could it? The particularness of someone who mattered enough to grieve over is not made anodyne by death. This hole in my heart is in the shape of you and no-one else can fit it. Why would I want them to?
Sometimes I think of you and I feel giddy. Memory makes me lightheaded, drunk on champagne. And the things we did. And if anyone had said this was the price I would have agreed to pay it. That surprises me; that with the hurt and mess comes a shaft of recognition. It was worth it. Love was worth it. Contentment is a feeling you say? Are you sure its not an absence of feeling?and many many more. lovely read. its one book i'm going to cherish. (:
