went for bsf today and i realized some things i've always taken for granted, yet they are also things that are not mentioned in the niv bible. it was quite disorienting at first but i realized just how much we dont know, and how we finite creatures inevitably are driven to seek out what we do not know and understand, hence disproving keats' theory of
negative capability. ok. i've been writing too many essays. haha..
things like realizing that the fruit eve ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil isnt actually an apple. its left unsaid.
and wondering how a serpent looks like; i've always pictured it as a snake.
and another question concerning how we know the name lucifer is associated with the devil.. its certainly not mentioned in the niv bible at all. -- heard that it was mentioned in some other version of the bible though.. yup.
its quite cool, really. it made me realize what a "secular" christian i've been, if there's such a sense. i've been too influenced by the images of the world trying to conceptualize and put into boxes the Word of God. so from now on, i'm going to look all around my Bible, with both eyes open, and a cautious tread onwards. =) i'm not going to miss anything that He has to say to me!
